Award winning program

by Angelean Hendrix

Recently, the Department of Mathematics at  North Carolina State received its second AMS award in as many years.  Last year we received the AMS Award for an Exemplary Program or Achievement in a Mathematics Department.  This year we were recognized for “Math programs that make a difference“.  While a hardy Congratulations needs to go out to all the wonderful people who make this department special, I have to say, the Department Heads and Graduate programs directors are really setting a wonderful standard.

The department’s commitment to nurturing students is apparent from day one. As our country faces increasing competition for talent in the national sciences, our country needs more programs that encourage creativity and fresh prospective from under-represented groups. The future holds promise for creators and pioneers. The great minds of tomorrow will be the ones that look at things from a different prospective, blazing uncharted territory. It is in programs like NCSU that these minds will flourish.

To undergrads, and future academics, keep a close eye on NCSU’s exemplary methods.  They will be integral to our future.  And personally, I am grateful for the future they have opened for me.

Go Wolfpack!
