Eko Hironaka became interested in mathematics during her junior year in college, and graduated with mathematics degrees from Harvard University (BA), and Brown University (PhD). After several years of postdoctoral positions she landed at Florida State University, where she spent 19 fulfilling years involved in research, teaching and raising a family. In 2015, she took the opportunity to apply her experiences in entirely new ways by leaving academia and taking on a job as Senior Editor of the AMS book program. Through this blog, she aims to explore how books influence mathematics, what mathematicians value or find limiting in books, and how they use books to enhance their research and teaching.
