But I still think of summer as the season of reading for pleasure. So what are some new books out there that I\u2019m thinking of reading, and where on the web can you find some excellent reviews of them?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Love and Math<\/strong> by Edward Frenkel<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NY Times review by Leonard Mlodinow<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2)\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>How Not to Be Wrong<\/strong> by Jordan Ellenberg\u2014wasn\u2019t on my list until today after having read the following two reviews:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mathbabe.org\/2014\/05\/29\/how-not-to-be-wrong-by-jordan-ellenberg\/\">Mathbabe review<\/a> by Cathy O\u2019Neil<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.scientificamerican.com\/roots-of-unity\/2014\/05\/31\/how-not-to-be-wrong-book-review\/\">Roots of Unity review<\/a> by Evelyn Lamb<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3)\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>The Best Writing in Mathematics<\/strong> edited by Mircea Pitici includes an article by my academic sister, Kelly Delp, on Topology and Fashion &#8212; that\u2019s reason enough for me to buy the book J. \u00a0This title has been a yearly publication of Princeton University Press since 2010.<\/p>\n<p>4)\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>50 Visions of Mathematics<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/science\/alexs-adventures-in-numberland\/gallery\/2014\/may\/14\/beauty-visions-mathematics-pictures\">Guardian review<\/a> by Alex Bellos<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I\u2019m drawn to any book that focuses on the visual beauty of mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>5)\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Beautiful Geometry<\/strong> by Eli Maor, Eugen Jost<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mathteacherctk.com\/blog\/2013\/12\/beautiful-geometry\/\">Cut-the-knot review<\/a> by Alexander Bogomolny<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Again, pretty pictures!!! This is coauthored by an artist and a mathematician.<\/p>\n<p>6)\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Doing Data Science<\/strong> by Cathy O\u2019Neil and Rachel Schutt<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.revolutionanalytics.com\/2014\/01\/a-review-of-doing-data-science-by-rachel-sshutt-and-cathy-oneil.html\">Revolution Data<\/a>Considering my current profession and the fact that blogger and Data Scientist Cathy O\u2019Neil is one of the authors, it\u2019s no wonder that this book is currently laying in my house\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>7)\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Our Mathematical Universe<\/strong> Max Tegmark<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottaaronson.com\/blog\/?p=1753\">Shtetl-Optimized review<\/a> by Scott Aaronson<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/02\/16\/books\/review\/our-mathematical-universe-by-max-tegmark.html\">NY Times Review<\/a> by Edward Frenkel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are certainly no guarantees that I will get around to reading all of these\u2014but in my experience, the first step to reaching a goal is setting it J.
