Just surf over to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/mona_chalabi\/?hl=en\"><span class=\"s2\">Mona Chalabi\u2019s Instagram account<\/span><\/a> and enjoy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><script async defer src=\"\/\/platform.instagram.com\/en_US\/embeds.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I first encountered Chalabi through her \u201cDear Mona\u201d column at <a href=\"http:\/\/fivethirtyeight.com\/tag\/dear-mona\/\"><span class=\"s2\">FiveThirtyEight<\/span><\/a>, which has since moved to <a href=\"http:\/\/nymag.com\/author\/Mona%20Chalabi\/\"><span class=\"s2\">New York Magazine.<\/span><\/a> There she answers people\u2019s questions with both statistics and compassion. Since then, I\u2019ve also been impressed with her work as data editor at Guardian US, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2016\/nov\/09\/polls-wrong-donald-trump-election\"><span class=\"s2\">this November 9 column<\/span><\/a> about why we should be treating polls with more skepticism. One of the things that makes Chalabi\u2019s visualizations so appealing is that she doesn\u2019t shy away from taboo subjects: sex, pubic hair, periods, nose picking, death, you name it. She wanted to present things more clearly and accessibly and in a way in which people could feel free to ask questions about the data, which they do in the comments on Instagram.
