Math.},\r\n  FJOURNAL = {Communications on Pure and Applied Mathematics},\r\n    VOLUME = {42},\r\n      YEAR = {1989},\r\n    NUMBER = {5},\r\n     PAGES = {577--685},\r\n      ISSN = {0010-3640},\r\n     CODEN = {CPAMA},\r\n   MRCLASS = {49F20 (41A30 92A27)},\r\n  MRNUMBER = {997568 (90g:49033)},\r\nMRREVIEWER = {Constantin Udri{\\c{s}}te},\r\n       DOI = {10.1002\/cpa.3160420503},\r\n       URL = {http:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1002\/cpa.3160420503},\r\n}\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>You can now copy and paste this into your .bib file. \u00a0Note that the BibTeX\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">key<\/span> is the MR number (MR997568). \u00a0Most people switch that to something that can be remembered more easily.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Saving multiple citations<\/h3>\n<p>Often, you may want to save a collection of citations for items on a particular theme. \u00a0For instance, if you are writing a paper about the Mumford-Shah conjecture, you may want to have citations for lots of papers related to the original. \u00a0In the top right-hand corner,<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ams.org\/beyondreviews\/files\/2015\/07\/Screen-Shot-Mumford-Shah-citations.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-323\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ams.org\/beyondreviews\/files\/2015\/07\/Screen-Shot-Mumford-Shah-citations.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot Mumford-Shah citations\" width=\"256\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>we can see that there are 343 references to the Mumford-Shah paper from reference lists and 23 references to the paper from a review (i.e., the reviewer of another paper explicitly mentions the Mumford-Shah paper). \u00a0Assuming that the instances from the reviews are a good core sample, let&#8217;s use those. \u00a0Clicking on &#8220;From Reviews&#8221; Bologna, Alma Mater Stud., Bologna},\r\n      YEAR = {2012},\r\n   MRCLASS = {49N60 (49K10)},\r\n  MRNUMBER = {3057536},\r\nMRREVIEWER = {Michela Eleuteri},\r\n}<\/pre>\n<p>For more information, see the MathSciNet help page on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ams.org\/mathscinet\/help\/headline_review_help_full.html#citations\">Retrieving Citations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>References from the command line<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.math.tamu.edu\/~comech\/\">Andrew Comech<\/a>, from Texas A&amp;M, wrote a command-line script for retrieving references in BibTeX format. \u00a0It requires a subscription to MathSciNet, but it serves the needs of those who prefer not to point and click repeatedly. \u00a0The script is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.math.tamu.edu\/~comech\/tools\/bibget\/\">bibget<\/a>, and is available from Comech&#8217;s webpage: \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.math.tamu.edu\/~comech\/tools\/bibget\/bibget\">http:\/\/www.math.tamu.edu\/~comech\/tools\/bibget\/bibget<\/a>. \u00a0The script has an option that allows you to use an SSH tunnel, so that you can use the tool from off campus. \u00a0This can fail (for the usual unknown reasons). \u00a0As an alternative, using Comech&#8217;s example, \u00a0you can try \u00a0<code>ssh &lt;your host name&gt;\u00a0bibget a=gilkey t=invariance book 1984 2&gt;\/dev\/null<\/code><\/p>\n<p>Notes: This is a <code>bash<\/code> script, so you will want to use it on a linux or unix machine (or from a terminal window on a Mac). \u00a0Or you can load a port of\u00a0<code>bash<\/code> for Windows on your machine.\u00a0 It also uses <code>wget<\/code> or\u00a0<code>lynx<\/code> to reach the network, so make sure you have one of those installed. \u00a0 For you Mac users, \u00a0bibget supports\u00a0<code>curl<\/code>, which is built into most Macs. \u00a0 Comech tells me that the script is &#8220;poorly coded&#8217;, but it does get the job done. \u00a0I have met some mathematicians who use bibget to build up a master BibTeX file, which they then use for all their papers.<\/p>\n<h3>References without a subscription<\/h3>\n<p>There is a tool to verify references that works even if you do not have a subscription to MathSciNet handy. \u00a0It is called\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ams.org\/mref\">mref<\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 If you type (or copy and paste) the author+title of a paper (or author + title + some journal info, if there is no unique match), you get back our bibliographic listing\u00a0of the item, including volume number, pages, year, and the MR number. \u00a0The MR number comes with a live link to the item in MathSciNet. \u00a0For instance, the search<\/p>\n<pre>Andrew Comech \r\nOptimal regularity of Fourier integral operators with one-sided folds.\r\nComm. Partial Differential Equations\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>produces<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">Comech, Andrew. Optimal regularity of Fourier integral operators with one-sided folds. Comm.
