Before coming to the NSF, he was at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucmerced.edu\/\">University of California Merced<\/a> where he was the Dean of Natural Sciences.\u00a0 Earlier, he was in the\u00a0 High Performance Computing Research group at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lbl.gov\/\">Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory<\/a> and was at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandia.gov\/\">Sandia National Laboratories<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meza did his <a href=\"https:\/\/genealogy.math.ndsu.nodak.edu\/id.php?id=43762\">PhD<\/a>\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/mathscinet.ams.org\/mathscinet-getitem?mr=2634941\">find his thesis here<\/a>) in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.caam.rice.edu\/\">Computational and Applied Mathematics Department<\/a> at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.trip.caam.rice.edu\/members\/symes\/william_symes.html\">Rice University<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/mathscinet.ams.org\/mathscinet\/MRAuthorID\/169415\">Bill Symes.<\/a>\u00a0(CAAM is in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.rice.edu\/~keith\/DuncanHall\/\">Duncan Hall<\/a>, which is an exquisite building.)
