\u00a0What started out as an ambitious, but small project by\u00a0Harry Coonce has really thrived. \u00a0It is a project of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndsu.edu\/math\/\">Mathematics Department of\u00a0North Dakota State University<\/a>. \u00a0The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ams.org\">AMS<\/a>\u00a0provides some support.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;MGP&#8221; is a very popular mathematical site on the web. \u00a0Moreover, more and more sites are linking to it. \u00a0On MathSciNet, we link to the MGP any time we find a match with an author in our database. \u00a0See, for instance, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ams.org\/mathscinet\/MRAuthorID\/104340\">Author Profile page for\u00a0Kolmogorov<\/a>. \u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www-groups.dcs.st-and.ac.uk\/~history\/\">MacTutor History of Mathematics archive<\/a> has been adding links to the MGP on a regular basis. \u00a0See, for instance, the entry on <a href=\"http:\/\/www-history.mcs.st-andrews.ac.uk\/Biographies\/Kolmogorov.html\">Kolmogorov<\/a>. \u00a0(The link to the\u00a0MGP entry is at the end.) \u00a0Wikipedia also has links to the MGP. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andrey_Kolmogorov\">Kolmogorov&#8217;s\u00a0Wikipedia entry<\/a> provides an example again. \u00a0And so does zbMATH\u00a0&#8230;see their entry on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/zbmath.org\/authors\/?q=ai:kolmogorov.andrei-nikolaevich\">Kolmogorov<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There is an informative\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ams.org\/notices\/200708\/tx070801002p.pdf\">interview with the founder, Harry Coonce, in the AMS Notices<\/a>\u00a0(September, 2007). \u00a0The current managing director of the Mathematics Genealogy Project is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ams.org\/mathscinet\/MRAuthorID\/826437\">Mitch Keller<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Mathematics Genealogy Project hit the 200,000th entry in their collection of data on PhDs in mathematics. \u00a0Congratulations!
